Welp.

Jade is married.

More in the next few days possibly as I go through my pictures and videos, but mostly everything went off without a single hitch which was a miracle considering how little time we had to plan this shindig. But the rings are on the fingers and the newly minted Mr. and Mrs. West Point are off to Savannah and then possibly to the beach for their honeymoon, and at last I can sit back and relax and STOP WORRYING.

Done, done, DONE. Thank. GOD.

JADE IS HERE OMG

here is what she is doing right now

THINGS THAT SEEM GOOD SO FAR: adoration of carver and merrill seems equal to my own
THINGS THAT SEEM UNFORTUNATE SO FAR: immediate fenris lust does not seem to have yet appeared. woe, tragedy

p.s. jade ate all of those chips and those chocolate things, i didn't have any of them no sirree, and we certainly didn't go through that entire bag in less than an hour while recruiting anders and fenris and merrill, no sirree

/cough.

ANYWAY thank you all for the anime recs from my last post! I ended up suggesting Sailor Moon and some Miyazaki (specifically Ponyo, Howl's Moving Castle, and tentatively Totoro). I think the girl's mother will be okay with those, but I guess we'll see after she's watched them, ha.

DANARIUS'S MANOR NEARLY PURGED! achievement unlocked: nine hour da2 marathon! oh, addictions, why can't we quit you. (And while I'm thinking of it, I do apologize for the incoherence of this post. I am extremely hungry and it was a long day at school. Also, I'm watching her play through all these these quests relatively unspoiled and it is just FASCINATING. Plus, you know. Fenris.)

man i have so many things to tell you guys, but i just can't seem to find the stupid spare time to sit down and make a proper post. ONE DAY. ONE DAY.

Dinnertime! :D

Hoover PD has instructed officers not to work accidents that do not have injuries…
Please, please do not travel across Central Alabama tonight.

AWWWWW YEAAAAAAAH (and by "awww yeaaah" i mean "well poopy")

Still no word on whether UAB is closing tomorrow, but if things keep getting icy, I can't imagine them expecting us to come to class. This just makes me so glad that my parents were able to get their flight out of Alabama yesterday. They're going to the National Championship game in Arizona and as you may have expected, there's not much snow there! Or ice. Just heat and cacti and oh yeah FOOTBAAAAWWWW WOOOOOOO (oh my goodness if auburn wins tomorrow night TOMORROW NIGHT!! i may melt down on lj. may. probably will.)

Things are pretty calm here while this storm's going on. My roommate Jasper had to work tonight, but luckily, she works less than a mile from our apartment; if worse comes to worst and the roads close, she could probably walk home without issue. Still, I'll be a little more relaxed once she's back safe and sound.

ANYWAY SO.

I have a class this semester called Gross Anatomy, the lab of which involves cadaver dissection. While I have done dissection before, including anesthetized surgery on small animals like rabbits and rats and toads, I haven't done any cadaver work, and as it turns out, rabbits are not humans?

Not, in fact, the same, regardless of what Looney Tunes claims.

(Just got the email: school is cancelled tomorrow! Hooray! :D :D :D)

We had our first introduction to the cadaver room this past Thursday. She gave us the usual speech in class first (these are human remains, we're grateful to have them, disrespect or rudeness towards the bodies will result in disciplinary action, etc) and then sent us down to the basement of the building where all the labs are to the cadaver room.

Now, I can't find exact dates online, but Volker Hall is not a new building. It is a building that reeks of the '70s, when they said artificial light was better for students and logical classroom layouts were fancies not even yet dreamed of. Volker's basement is a windowless maze of narrow linoleum hallways with dead ends and doors to stairwells that don't always open, lights that I swear to God flicker when you walk by them, and at the end of one of these hallways, hidden in the narrow twisty hallways under a flickering light, we approached a door that made the air around it grow physically colder.

Not a dramatization.

And then the instructor opened the door, and we walked inside, and I just had this moment of

what on the earth am i doing here

because there were forty black body bags on slabs in the icy cold room.

and then we all dispersed and found our groups and tables and people started talking and it became as normal as I think it could possibly be with 120 living people in the same room as 40 um. non-living ones?

Anyway, we met our body, which was a 33-year-old African American woman who died of diabetes. Three of the four of us handled it okay, but the fourth girl in our group turned white as a sheet and just about fell over. She could barely handle the eyeball we did in the fall, so I knew she was going to probably have an issue with this course, but man, I have no idea how she's going to handle it once she actually has to start cutting into the body. I told her we'd duct tape pillows to her body if we had to, and she said, only half-joking, "...I may need them."

OH OH OH AND the people beside us, when they unzipped their bag? I am not even lying, their body was green. GREEN. From head to toe, like it'd been painted or dipped in dye and GUYS

THEIR BODY WAS GREEN.

Of course, the lecturer came over and explained that the combination of embalming fluid and liver disease often turns the skin around the gut green, and this particular person died of hepatic cancer and so the whole body was affected but GREEN, GUYS, OH MY GOODNESS GRACIOUS

GREEEEEEEN

I am not kidding. This is almost the exact color.

This is going to be an interesting class.

8th-Nov-2010 10:46 pm - things!

My mom found this picture of my grandmother the other day. This must have been about ten years ago, but I still really like it.

I went to go see Secretariat on Tuesday (by myself, why doesn't anyone love horse movies) and Due Date this Saturday with some friends (I MADE FRIENDS between...Tuesday and Saturday I guess, WHY DON'T ANY OF MY FRIENDS LOVE HORSE MOVIES), and I also watched Megamind tonight (DAVID CROSS IS IN MEGAMIND! I was really surprised to hear his voice so I went to IMDB and looked it up and guys David Cross has a tattoo. TOBIAS HAS A TATTOO this is so weird to me) and ANYWAY (OMG OMG OMG OMG so I'm watching it online again right now and Megamind says "I've made a horrible mistake." Arrested Development reference? most definitely) AND ANYWAY JEEZ HOW LONG IS THIS SENTENCE, ANYWAY i just...really enjoyed them all. Secretariat has some fabulous moments, especially in the end, and Due Date really made me laugh, but I think Megamind's my favorite so far out of the three. But--this random person recommends all three, so feel free to

you know

rest secure in that knowledge i guess
